OUR STORY
How we started
Babies & Beads was created by Stacy Williams, a Case Manager at TRACE (Transition Resources for Adult Community Education)and Robert Rochin Program Director for Exceptional Family Resource Center, San Diego State. Stacy and Robert saw a need for the young adults with children in their program. They both wanted to help their students get off social services and learn work readiness skills while earning money for baby necessities. Thus,just like a new baby...Babies and Beads was born.
​Babies & Beads became a micro-enterprise for students who participate in TRACE. Not only a business for and run by students with children, it has blossomed into a volunteer site for students without children who are learning great work ethics and gaining valuable work experiences.
In 2015, we reached out to San Diego Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting Program (SANDAPP)and students are now using some of our funds to make baskets filled with baby necessities for SANDAPP participants.

Currently, we provide baby necessities for students who participate in the Micro-business. In addition, we adopt an Early Childhood Special Ed. classroom yearly which we will purchase classroom necessities for and hold a social event for the students to interact.
Mission Statement:
The mission of Babies and Beads is to provide work readiness skills including social skills, team work, problem solving, customer service skills, cash handling skills, etc.. for students with disabilities while providing an opportunity to give back to the students who are young parents. In addition, we adopt an Early Childhood Special Education class in which we provide classroom materials for and hold a social event where adult students can interact with the toddler students.
